Ink & Toner Cartridges

FACT: Some kinds of toner dust contain hazardous materials. Inkjet inks can also contain a range of chemicals that are harmful to the environment. These materials pose no threat while they are contained within the cartridge.
However, these pollutants can escape when cartridges are pulled apart in poorly managed refilling or recycling operations or when dumped cartridges start to deteriorate in landfill. Toner dust is also extremely fine (5 – 15 microns), so it can easily leach from landfill into nearby waterways, ground water and ultimately the oceans.

What can we do?

• Buy recycled, refillable or remanufactured toners and cartridges instead of brand new ones. Rebates offered for return of some products.

• Keep a box for used cartridges near printers. Used cartridges can be placed in Planet Ark recycling boxes at most Post Offices.

• If you have a regular supply of empty cartridges you can order your own collection box through 'Close The Loop Resource Recovery' When filled these boxws can then be picked up free by a courier service. To order a starter pack, phone 1800 24 24 73.
